SCMs and Sustainable Construction
Our efforts for supporting sustainable construction stem further than our concrete
products' post-consumer recycled content. Atlas Block concrete products also include
supplementary cementing materials (SCMs) that help to reduce the impact on our natural
resources, contribute to more durable buildings, and perpetuate a responsible construction
cycle for builders.
More than minimizing the use of new resources, recycling of these materials also
contributes to other sustainable practices. For example, many SCMs can increase
product strength and lighten the colour of concrete blocks to reduce sunlight absorption,
therefore minimizing product cracking and reducing a building's heating & cooling loads.
